Maloku: US assistance in dialogue is welcome, I don't believe it will take the main role

Political analyst Albinot Maloku says that the assistance of the United States in the dialogue process is welcome, but he does not believe that Washington will assume the primary role in Kosovo-Serbia negotiations.

Maloku says for Kosovo Online that the United States has been involved in the dialogue process previously, whether through "pressuring the Kosovo side or providing advice."

"It would not be advisable, and I don't see the US interested in getting directly involved in the dialogue process, especially when it comes to the agreements reached so far. As long as we don't have a comprehensive, binding agreement from both sides, I don't see America getting involved as the main player. US assistance is always welcome, even for the European Union, as they know they support each other in special situations. But I don't see the possibility of the US getting directly involved in the dialogue," Maloku said.

He believes that as long as the EU continues its "unbalanced policy toward the parties, it will be unproductive in the dialogue."

"Now, whether unilateral behavior will produce something, I am very skeptical, not to say I don't expect anything. But I think the EU should change its course and be more creative, not in the sense of what it has been so far, to produce an agreement between the parties. If we had an agreement in Brussels and then later an agreement on the annex in Ohrid, the EU wasn't there to say which side has violated this agreement so far and how many times. In this context, I think the EU's previous approach, if continued in this direction, will not be productive, and the EU as a mediator will not be able to boast about the results of its work, especially regarding the mandate that Miroslav Lajcak has," Maloku concluded.
