The US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, expects the Government of Kosovo, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, to work in partnership with Washington to achieve progress in Kosovo, according to Koha.

During a conference organized by the Kosovo Ambassadors Council on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of NATO's military intervention, Hovenier reiterated the US stance that Kosovo's only path to Euro-Atlantic integration was through dialogue for the normalization of relations with Serbia, mediated by the European Union.

"There is no other way, especially the implementation in good faith and in full of all the obligations that Kosovo has undertaken in the dialogue, cannot be negotiated. From this Government of Kosovo, as well as from previous governments, we expect to work in partnership with us as we continue to build a prosperous, multi-ethnic, and secure Kosovo in the Western Balkans region," Hovenier said.

Regarding NATO membership, Hovenier states that the path to enlargement goes through the alliance agreement and what the new member has to offer to the Alliance.

"The path to NATO enlargement leads to convincing allies of what you bring to the Alliance. No one joins NATO for benefits; you join because you have made the necessary reforms and established the right two-sphere policy, military, and political. Do you behave as an ally, do you share common values, and can they trust you as an ally," Hovenier said.
