Jack Smith is no longer the chief prosecutor in the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. The American resigned from this position, which he held since May 2018, Reporteri reports.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel to oversee the criminal investigations into the retention of classified documents at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort and the January 6, 2021 riot. Smith, as a prosecutor at the Hague Tribunal, investigated crimes in Kosovo.

He was appointed three days after Trump announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.
In a statement, Smith promised to conduct the investigation "independently" and in the best tradition of the Justice Department.

"The pace of the investigation will not pause or lag under my watch. I will conduct an independent assessment and conduct an investigation expeditiously and thoroughly, regardless of the outcome that the facts and the law dictate," Smith said.
