Dalibor Jevtic, the Mayor of Strpce, congratulated the residents on the feast day of Saint John and on July 7th, the Day of the Uprising of the Serbian People against Occupation in World War II, with a message that they will never give up the fight for truth and justice.

In a Facebook post extending his congratulations for today's holiday, Jevtic stated that the times we live in are full of challenges and injustices.

"I extend my congratulations to the residents of Strpce and to all those celebrating Saint John's Day on behalf of the municipality of Strpce and myself. I also thank the SUBNOR association, which marks this day as a remembrance of the Day of the Uprising of the People against Occupation in World War II, for reminding us of all those who sacrificed their lives for freedom during the war and the fight against fascism and Nazism. The times we live in are full of challenges and injustices," Jevtic said.

Jevtic reminded that exactly one year ago, on this significant holiday in Strpce, heavily armed special units of the Kosovo Police entered the town.

"At the moment when our fellow citizens were heading to the church for the liturgy and paying tribute to the graves and monuments of our ancestors, the streets of Strpce were filled with police officers wearing masks and carrying long guns. The reason given was the alleged removal of surveillance cameras used for espionage. Now, one year later, everything has confirmed what I immediately stated on July 7th last year—that it was all a farce and another form of pressure on the Strpce citizens, ordered by the current regime in Pristina. It will be remembered as another holiday with long guns in the streets of Sirinicka Zupa," Jevtic added.

He emphasized that they wish to spend this holiday, like any other, whether it is Orthodox, Islamic, Catholic, or commemorating any other event, in peace.

"We actually want every day to be a day without tension, without lists for politically motivated arrests, where all Strpce citizens, regardless of their ethnic background, can live in peace and prosperity. That is precisely why, on this day when we commemorate a religious holiday and remember the sacrifices of the fighters against fascism, I send this message of peace and reason, urging an end to institutional violence, false fabricated trials, spreading lies and falsehoods, and fear among people. We will never give up our fight for truth and justice," Jevtic said.
