Karanovic: Kurti no longer needs Osmani, he dreams of the presidential position

Analyst from the Center for Social Stability, Ognjen Karanovic, believes that the conflict between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Vjosa Osmani arose because Kurti aspires to the presidential position, and that it is being considered now whether Osmani is needed by the new Pristina government after the elections.

Karanovic emphasizes that parties in Kosovo do not have autonomy in making important decisions, but rather the strategic policies of all political parties are designed by Western countries.

He adds that the Guxo party, formed by Osmani, lacks political significance, which is why the President of Kosovo is once again aligning herself with the positions of the LDK, of which she was a member.

"Let us not think that they are clashing over substantive issues. Absolutely not. Whether it is the Self-Determination Movement (Vetevendosje) or Guxo, or it's the LDK or PDK, they have strategic policies designed by Western countries. They do not have particular autonomy in the decision-making process. But we must be aware that general elections will be held in February next year. There will be new positioning, or the creation of a new constellation of political relations. Guxo is actually a divided group of political forces that split from the LDK. It is evident that Osmani is once again aligning with the LDK's positions because Guxo is an unimportant partner for the Self-Determination Movement, lacking political strength. She has no support in the electorate, their political strength is minor, and they will fare poorly in the elections," Karanovic emphasized.

He believes that Kurti "dreams" of the position of President of Kosovo.

"Considering that he has a maniacal political profile, he probably now dreams of the position of President of so-called Kosovo, and even dreams of the position of leader of all Albanians, he would even replace Edi Rama," he added.

Although the Presidency and the Government of Kosovo have presented technical details as the reason for the strained relations, Karanovic points out that the essence of the conflict between Kurti and Osmani does not lie in the Community of Serb Municipalities, but is of an internal nature.

"Osmani is trying to position herself in the American diplomatic nomenclature as an important political factor, even the Americans have indicated that she is a guarantor of the stability of so-called Kosovo. That is not the fundamental reason. Neither Osmani nor Kurti want the CSM, and fundamentally, the political West does not want it either. Let's not deceive ourselves into thinking that Kurti is a significant political factor who can resist the will of his mentors, who created him. It is about their internal conflict over who will hold power and whether Osmani is needed in that power after February 2025 or not," Karanovic concluded.
