Former Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos said that the decision of the Greek government to support Kosovo's request to start the procedure for admission to the Council of Europe did not contribute to peace and stability in the Balkans.

Katrougalos emphasized on Twitter that Greece should always promote peace and stability in the Balkans and seek mutually acceptable steps and solutions.

"The Government's decision to vote for Kosovo's admission to the Council of Europe, which differs from other EU countries, that do not recognize Kosovo, such as Spain, Romania, and especially Cyprus, which voted against, does not contribute to this goal. This position was not discussed with the political forces, although it changes, without explanation, the firm Greek position. At the same time, it weakens the role of mediator that Greece should have in the region," Katrougalos said.
