Kosovo police officers brutally beat the arrested Dusan Obrenovic
Lawyer Predrag Miljkovic, representing Dusan Obrenovic, who was arrested in Zvecan yesterday, stated that his client had been brutally beaten by Kosovo Police members.
"Last night, I was contacted by the family to take on his case and I visited him at the police station in the southern part of Mitrovica. Dusan Obrenovic was severely beaten by the Kosovo police during the arrest and, as he claims, also upon entering the police station. He sustained various head injuries, including cuts, bruises, and hematomas on his head. He was brutally and terribly beaten. He was beaten so badly that, excuse the expression, he was nearly incontinent. He told me last night that he was also beaten here at the municipal building when they arrested him," Miljkovic said.
He added that Obrenovic was being charged with the criminal offense of "incitement to resistance and endangering persons under international protection."
"I understand that someone can be suspected and arrested, but to be beaten like that, to be savagely beaten... I call upon the international community, the police, and the judiciary to have an investigation, see what is happening, and put an end to this. Please let everyone understand that Dusan Obrenovic is a young man who was there to express a peaceful protest, but no one deserves to be beaten like that in the 21st century. He has been examined by a doctor, and I even read that the doctor recommended consulting a surgeon. I'm not sure if the surgeon has been consulted," Miljkovic added.
Miljkovic emphasized that he was just about to visit Obrenovic and see his condition and whether he had sustained any new injuries since last night.
As he further stated, Obrenovic has been placed under police detention for 48 hours, and it depends on the prosecutor whether he will be brought before the court.
