Krieziu: The elections held in the north were a waste of time and money; Baraliu: The EU is contradictory

After the Central Election Commission completed all procedures related to the election results on April 23, paving the way for the constitution of local institutions in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, legal experts in Pristina interpret differently the legality and legitimacy of the entire process in which Serbs did not participate, reports RTK .

According to the Law on Local Self-Government, the constituent session of the Municipal Assembly must be held within 15 days after the confirmation of the results, and the four newly elected presidents in the north of Kosovo must be sworn in by May 28.

The law further specifies that a president who does not take the oath within one month of the certification of the election results loses his mandate.

Some mayors of municipalities in the north have declared that they will take the oath outside the municipal premises, which, according to expert on constitutional issues Kadri Krieziu, is not legal.

"I hear that the oath will be taken outside the municipal building. This only happened during the French Revolution, that is, they only happen in exceptional cases, in cases of war. These elections have no legitimacy, or even legality, and represent a waste of time, finances and in the political sense Regular, free and independent elections must be held that produce effects in the establishment of appropriate institutions with full legitimacy and legality," Krieziu told Radio Kosovo.

The European Union requested that the newly elected mayors of the northern municipalities cancel their mandates, which was criticized by the expert on legal circumstances, Mazlum Baraliu, who considers this move contradictory.

"It is with regret that I assess the political and contradictory confusion between the main EU officials. Why? Because a few days ago, the representatives of the Quint countries declared that they would recognize these elections and their results, regardless of who participates in them. While one of their representatives comes out and declares that it would be good that these elections are repeated and that way it implies that they cannot have legitimacy", Baraliu told for Radio Kosovo.
