Kryeziu: The dismissal of the mayors has no legal basis; Resignations are the most appropriate

Former judge of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, Kadri Kryeziu, believes that the resignation of the mayors in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo is the most appropriate way to go to new local elections, given that there is no legal basis for their removal.

Kryeziu clarifies that the Instruction for the dismissal of the mayor has a constitutional basis, but their dismissal has not because they did not do anything illegal.

"The fastest way to solve the problems is for the presidents of the municipalities to resign, it is a moral act. The petition is a political strategy, the work is delayed, it takes too long. If you submit a petition, you must state the reason. These leaders did not break the law, they are not legitimate, but legal. The instruction has a constitutional basis, but the dismissal has no constitutional basis because they did not do anything illegal. The fairest and fastest way is to resign for the sake of Kosovo," Kryeziu said for Dukagjini.

Regarding the petition to remove the president, Kryeziu points out that the mayors can appeal and even win the case in court.

"They have no justification, the request for a petition should be based on 50 plus percent of the electorate, to go to the Municipal Assembly, to discuss the reasons there. They have no reason, this is an unknown equation. Mayors can appeal and win the case, they cannot be told 'we don't love you', there is no legal justification," he stressed.
