Kurti: The bridge should be opened; there cannot be a Serbian super-minority in Kosovo

Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti, speaking about the issue of the bridge on the Ibar River, which remains closed to traffic, and the stance of allies regarding the Kosovo government's efforts to open it, stated that Kosovo wants a normal bridge, and a normal bridge is one that is open. When asked about the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, Kurti said there cannot be a "Serbian super-minority in Kosovo as Belgrade wants," Gazeta Express reports.

"We want a normal bridge. A normal bridge is an open bridge. The only ones satisfied with a closed bridge are those who still dream of dividing Kosovo," Kurti told the Financial Times.

He added that Europe had torn down the walls and, as he said, it is not right to insist on keeping the bridge on the Ibar closed.

"Europe has torn down the walls. It is not right to insist on a closed bridge," Kurti said.

When asked about the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, Kurti stated that there cannot be a "Serbian super-minority in Kosovo as Belgrade wants."

"I don't want anyone to be privileged, nor do I want anyone to be discriminated against. There cannot be a super-minority as Belgrade wants," Kurti told the Financial Times.

Speaking about Kosovo's relations with the United States and the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House after the presidential elections set to take place in November of this year, Kurti stated that he would work with whoever takes over the White House.

He emphasized that Kosovo had a common language with the administration of former President Donald Trump.

Speaking about the EU, Kurti noted that the appointment of a new executive authority this fall had created an opportunity to refocus on "Serbia's aggressive role in the Balkans" in contrast to the softer approach toward Belgrade recently taken by the EU.
