Milovic: Municipal premises in Zvecan devastated, artwork and icons destroyed
The Mayor of the Municipality of Zvecan, Dragisa Milovic, stated that he encountered a horrific scene upon entering the municipal building. He noted that water was leaking everywhere and that the competent teams were already working to repair the damage.
“Much has been damaged. It is well known that the Municipality of Zvecan hosts an International Art Colony, and numerous artworks were kept in the municipal offices. We saw that they had been damaged and were lying on the floor. Icons have also been damaged. One can see clear neglect in certain offices and parts of the municipal building,” Milovic said.
He added that he had received information that the basements were filled with water and that the Red Cross offices had been flooded.
“Today, technical teams are working to repair the damage. Afterwards, we will form a commission to assess the extent of the damage, and at the upcoming assemblies the citizens will be informed about what was destroyed and the estimated value of the loss,” the Mayor of Zvecan told TV Most.
He emphasized that it is known that special police units had occupied the municipal building for the past three years, but it remains unclear who is responsible for the building being neglected and the items inside being destroyed.
“The toilets don’t work, water is leaking everywhere. We must repair this damage in order to ensure the safety of the building itself. Expert commissions will need to handle this,” Milovic added.
The new Mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, stated earlier today that the mayors of the four municipalities in northern Kosovo, after taking office from the Albanian mayors yesterday, found the municipal buildings in catastrophic condition, with items of exceptional value missing and Orthodox icons desecrated.
A member of the Presidency of the Serb List, Igor Simic, shared photographs of the desecrated icons in the Zvecan municipal building. According to him, the rooms where the icons had been kept were used by members of the Kosovo Police special units after they stormed the municipal premises.
