Economics professor Shkumbin Misini told Kosovo Online that the United Kingdom is interested in the Berlin Process initiative because it has invested a great deal of time in the European Union and wants to join EU countries in their efforts to create peace and security in the Western Balkans.

"Even a small spark in the Western Balkan countries has consequences for the EU," Misini says.

He points out that the war in Ukraine has brought geostrategic and geopolitical changes, especially in EU countries, and that the major investment the UK made in the EU comes with a cost.

"That is why they want to see a more stable and sustainable Balkan region, because of the problems that Western Balkan countries can face. According to analyses and data, these countries are heavily influenced by Russian and Chinese investments in terms of disinformation. That is why the EU is interested in bringing the Balkan countries into the fold and into EU membership. Is that part of the EU’s geostrategic policy? Yes. Is it also part of the UK’s geostrategic policy? Yes," Misini says.
