The appointment of Richard Grenell as a presidential envoy for special missions is proof that he is one of Donald Trump's most trusted figures. His engagement in the Western Balkans will depend on the situation in the region, but I believe he will focus on the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and the implementation of signed agreements, Marko Miskeljin, an associate at the Center for Social Stability, told Kosovo Online.

"This is someone with immense experience, even when it comes to critical areas of the world, and in terms of diplomacy, someone Donald Trump has described as a rising star. It is good for this region that someone who is well-acquainted with its dynamics will handle the issues within the scope of Grenell's portfolio," Miskeljin said.

He believes Grenell's involvement in the Western Balkans will largely depend on how the situation evolves.

"How involved Richard Grenell will be in the Balkans depends on how much this region becomes a hotspot, how many problems the U.S. might expect for its own interests, and in general. We will see the extent of his involvement, but certainly, when it comes to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and the implementation of signed agreements, we can expect greater engagement from Richard Grenell. Given the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the constant escalation of tensions by the Pristina administration, it is expected that someone tasked with special areas by the U.S. president will be more active," Miskeljin stated.

When asked whether Grenell's return would favor Belgrade or Pristina, the analyst said it would benefit everyone who seeks a better quality of life.

"His return benefits everyone who cares about improving the quality of life for all people in this region, especially for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. Of course, we shouldn't be overly excited or place too much hope in this, but it is undoubtedly a good signal that someone who has previously demonstrated understanding and pragmatism is taking such a position in the new U.S. administration," Miskeljin emphasized.

Therefore, he believes, Grenell's appointment will not sit well with everyone, particularly those who did not anticipate it — primarily the Pristina administration and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
