Montgomery told the EU: Stop conducting stupid dialogues and implement previous agreements
Former US Ambassador to Serbia William Montgomery told the European Union today that the only correct way to move forward in the dialogue process was to insist on the full implementation of the Brussels Agreement before considering the next steps.
He said this for Tanjug while commenting on the recent high-level dialogue in Brussels, telling the EU that no one believes that EU membership is a reality.
"Let me be clear to the EU: No one believes that EU membership is a reality. You have caused this by delaying the process too often. Stop having these stupid dialogues and start implementing previous agreements. Then proceed step by step," Montgomery said.
When asked how he sees the situation developing and whether he believes relations between the two sides can be resolved in the near future, Montgomery says that the EU is "unfortunately eager to resolve" the Balkan issues this year, but he believes that it will not succeed.
"Please encourage the EU to use EU membership as the only incentive. This is hypocritical at best. Let them show their confidence by opening and closing more chapters quickly," Montgomery concluded.
