Muhaxhiri: Diaspora votes are easily won through patriotism, Kurti uses this

Analyst Artan Muhaxhiri believes that the Kosovo diaspora is the category of voters whose votes are much easier to win in elections. He states that the leader of Self-Determination and acting prime minister Albin Kurti, aware of this, places his greatest hopes precisely in the diaspora, while the LDK and PDK have given up on those votes in the elections.

The issue of the diaspora is treated in the Kosovo media as emotional and symbolic, due to the assistance the diaspora has provided over the past decades, Muhaxhiri points out, adding that politicians do not need to persuade the diaspora with economic prosperity, but that it is enough to occasionally say a patriotic slogan.

“Politicians know that when they say grand things about the diaspora, they can hope to gain votes. The voting of the diaspora is different from the voting of Kosovo residents, because it is much easier to win their votes. Sometimes it is enough to say some patriotic slogans and similar things, and there is no need to persuade them with economic projections and promises. It is a different category of voters,” Muhaxhiri said.

According to him, Kurti has so far had an overwhelming majority of diaspora votes, and that is why he insisted that the elections be held on December 28.

He added that the other parties have given up on the votes of the diaspora.

“He knows that the diaspora will come to celebrate the New Year, and that he will receive most of those votes. However, other parties, such as the PDK and the LDK, have a problem, since it seems they have given up on diaspora votes and have not worked to win or secure a larger share of those votes. That is why I think that Kurti’s main advantage and greatest hope in these elections is precisely the diaspora. He knows that in Kosovo he cannot repeat the same old stories he has been telling for years,” Muhaxhiri added.
