Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri says that through its attempts to prevent the Serb List from taking part in the elections, Self-Determination aims to win over those voters who do not delve too deeply into analyses, because it is clear that it does not have sufficient legal arguments against the Serb List, and without such arguments the institutions have only one option, which is to grant the Serb List the right to participate in the upcoming elections.

Muhaxhiri notes that it is very unfortunate that political leaders and parties still use the card of pseudo-nationalism and pseudo-patriotism, and that it is very sad that after six years in power Albin Kurti and Self-Determination have no other cards or arguments to seek votes except by playing with the question of the Serb List.

“What Self-Determination is trying to do is very hypocritical, because the two main ministers in Kurti’s cabinet, Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Svecla and Minister of Foreign Affairs Donika Gërvalla, granted approval for the Serb List to participate in the elections, since the ministries of internal and foreign affairs assess whether there are obstacles for a party to be formed. This means that they did not find anything unlawful that would prevent the Serb List from being part of the elections. They did not raise their voices then, but now they are playing very populist games aimed at winning votes,” Muhaxhiri told Kosovo Online.

He says he is 100 percent convinced that Self-Determination’s attempt will not succeed, but adds that Kurti is doing this because of social media, Facebook and TikTok, in order to create an artificial impression that only he is pro-Albanian and pro-Kosovo, while other parties are aligned with the Serb List, creating a division between him and them.

“This approach was very successful in the previous two election cycles when he won 50 percent and 42 percent, and he hopes the same will happen now. However, it is absolutely certain that from a legal standpoint he has no right, because there are not enough legal arguments against the Serb List, and without them the institutions have only one option, and that is to give the Serb List the right to take part in the upcoming elections,” Muhaxhiri concludes.
