Muhaxhiri: Kurti wants to reduce the negative impact of EU sanctions, the opposition will exploit this issue

Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri stated that EU sanctions will negatively affect the ruling party in Kosovo’s elections and that the opposition will be able to leverage this issue to its advantage.
Muhaxhiri believes that the European Union's sanctions have already adversely impacted Kosovo, even though Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti does not want to admit it.
“He would like to minimize the negative impact, but the truth is that Kosovo is, in a way, isolated from normal political relations with the EU and its key member states. I think this will be a significant advantage for the opposition, as they will capitalize on it during the elections. The most important point to mention is that Kurti currently lacks both an explanation and a strategy for how he will deal with the sanctions in the future, even if he secures a new mandate. This places him in a very poor position. However, this was his decision and strategy, as he chose to rely on populism rather than rational policy,” Muhaxhiri said.
He added that the sanctions will most significantly impact voters who make rational decisions when choosing whom to support at the polls.
“This will undoubtedly have a substantial influence on voters who think and vote rationally. Those voters who are steadfast in their support for Kurti will remain loyal to him, but those who have voted for him in the past based on reason will now reconsider whether to give Kurti another chance,” Muhaxhiri concluded.
