Troude: The authorities in Pristina no longer have the support of the Albanian government, nor of the Americans
French historian and geopolitics professor at the University of Versailles Alexis Troude believes that the authorities in Pristina no longer have support from the Albanian government or from the Americans.
In an interview for RTS on the occasion of the publication of his book “Serbs and French – Intertwined Fates,” the French historian and professor says that history is turning against the authorities in Pristina.
“The issue of Kosovo is truly a thorn in Serbia’s side, because it is clear that in the end, after 33 chapters of negotiations with the European Union, the 34th and final chapter will be a demand that Serbia give up its province of Kosovo and Metohija in exchange for EU membership. That will be a very difficult moment for the Serbs, and I am genuinely concerned about it. In the coming period, despite everything that has happened – including the imposition of Albanian mayors elected by less than two percent of the electorate, as well as the entire humiliating policy of the government in Pristina – it is clear that the authorities in Pristina no longer have support from the Albanian government, nor from the Americans. History is turning against them,” Troude says.
He points out that corruption scandals are breaking out in Pristina, and that the opposition is becoming increasingly nervous, which is why he hopes that in such a context the pressure on the Serbs, which has been very strong for years, will finally begin to ease.
“I had the opportunity to bring European MPs, the latest being my friend Nicolas Bay, who personally saw how the authorities in Pristina pressure and restrict the Serbian population. I hope that this pressure will ease and that the Serbs, finally including the Serb List, as well as others, will be allowed to participate in elections in a democratic manner and choose at least a somewhat more moderate government.”
