Following the removal of murals in North Mitrovica and Zvecan, this morning residents of Leposavic and Socanica were met with a similar sight – unknown individuals, with the assistance of the Kosovo Police, painted over murals dedicated to Djordje Lukovic and Jovan Milanovic.

The operation to remove murals and graffiti, carried out by municipalities in northern Kosovo, took place during the night between Sunday and Monday in the municipality of Leposavic. On that occasion, in addition to numerous graffiti, unknown individuals also painted over two murals.

One of them, located on the wall of the "Sava Decanac" Cultural Center in the center of Leposavic, was dedicated to Jovan Milanovic Dzin, a young man who passed away from cancer five years ago. The mural had been painted by his friends.

The second mural, painted over in the center of Socanica, was dedicated to Djordje Lukovic. This had been the only mural in the town.

As a reminder, during the night between Saturday and Sunday, several unknown individuals, assisted by members of the Kosovo Police, painted over murals and graffiti in North Mitrovica related to Serbian national symbols and historical figures.

On that occasion, a mural dedicated to Patriarch Pavle and Metropolitan Amfilohije was also painted over. This act was condemned, among others, by the Eparchy of Raska and Prizren.

In a statement, the Eparchy stressed that such provocative and one-sided actions not only fail to contribute to dialogue and peaceful coexistence, but also make it harder to find ways for all citizens to live together peacefully.
