Kosovo Democratic Party MP Ariana Musliu Shoshi said that Kosovo Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca had spoken half-heartedly at the Security Council about the verdict against former KLA leaders in The Hague, noting that 81 years in prison is not a technical error that can be brushed aside in two sentences.

“At the Security Council, Glauk Konjufca spoke in lukewarm terms about the verdict against our liberators, contenting himself with stating that there were ‘errors in substance and facts’ that were expected to be corrected through the appeals process, while 81 years in prison for four leaders of our liberation struggle deserves much more than an expression of concern!” Musliu Shoshi wrote on Facebook.

She criticised Konjufca for not saying a single word about the role of Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi in the “liberation, independence and state-building of Kosovo”.

“We heard this kind of approach from the very person appointed to lead the state's strategy for The Hague. If strong opposition to this verdict is not expressed at the Security Council, where and when will it be expressed? Minister, you do not represent a single party or a single government there. You represent the Republic of Kosovo and its history. Injustice cannot be fought through diplomatic formalities. Historical truth cannot be defended half-heartedly,” the MP concluded.

At the UN Security Council session, referring to the Specialist Chambers' verdict, Konjufca said that Kosovo would work towards “correcting the injustice through the appeals process”.

“The verdict has provoked a strong negative reaction in Kosovo. As a people that was a victim, Kosovo cooperated with the Hague Tribunal, other courts and UN bodies in prosecuting and punishing all war crimes, regardless of ethnicity. We did the same in the case of the Specialist Chambers. It was clearly emphasised there that the KLA's war itself was not on trial, and that the ruling was not intended to diminish the significance of the liberation war, nor the proclamation of an independent state, which represents the most important element of stability in the region,” Konjufca said.
