NATO official on Kosovo: Decades of hard-earned peace must not be jeopardized

KFOR continues to fulfill its UN mandate impartially and at all times. For over two decades, KFOR has maintained a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo and freedom of movement, in line with our UN mandate, a NATO official stated for Kosovo Online.

When asked about how the Alliance views the mission in Kosovo over the past 25 years considering all events, especially in the period from June 12, 1999, to March 2004, and also in 2023, we received a written response from a NATO official.

"KFOR continues to impartially fulfill its UN mandate at all times. For over two decades, KFOR has maintained a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo and freedom of movement, in line with our UN mandate. Decades of hard-earned peace must not be compromised. NATO's commitment to KFOR remains strong today. In light of recent tensions, we have deployed around 1,000 additional soldiers to Kosovo and increased KFOR's presence in the north. This was the largest reinforcement of our mission in the last decade. Stability in the region ultimately depends on whether all sides choose diplomacy over violence and respect existing obligations. NATO strongly supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, mediated by the EU. This is the only path to lasting peace and stability that respects the rights of all communities, and both sides must engage in good faith," the NATO official stated in a written response for our portal.
