North Mitrovica: Police returned the “Peace of God, Christ Is Born” banner, which is immediately displayed
After 8:30 p.m. this evening, the Kosovo Police returned the banner bearing the inscription “Peace of God, Christ Is Born,” after which it was immediately displayed in the square in North Mitrovica.
Representatives of the Serb List were previously contacted by the police, and shortly after taking possession of the banner, it was put up.
Earlier this afternoon, members of the Kosovo Police confiscated the banner “Peace of God, Christ Is Born,” which representatives of the Serb List had attempted to display in the city center, while Mayor Milan Radojevic was requested to report immediately to the police station.
This was preceded by a conversation lasting more than an hour, during which police officers emphasized that they had orders not to allow the banner to be displayed. Members of the Serb List—Igor Simic, Ivan Zaporozac, and Nemanja Bisevac —demanded that the police explain which law they had violated and why the display of the banner was being banned. However, the only response they received was that there was an order that the banner must not be displayed.
Subsequently, more than 30 police officers confiscated the banner and took it to the police station.
As Mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic had decided that, ahead of Christmas, a banner with the traditional greeting “Peace of God, Christ Is Born” should be displayed in the center of the city.
North Mitrovica Mayor Milan Radojevic told Kosovo Online that at the police station he was issued a citation for failure to comply with a police officer’s order, after the Kosovo Police confiscated—without explanation—the banner bearing the inscription “Peace of God, Christ Is Born” from members of the Serb List.
