Novakovic: I expect nothing from the dialogue; both sides are waiting for the effects of the U.S. elections

Senior associate at the Center for International and Security Affairs (ISAC Fund), Igor Novakovic, stated that he does not expect anything from tomorrow's continuation of the dialogue because both the U.S. and Kosovo have upcoming elections, and both sides, as he highlights, are waiting to see what will happen afterward.

"We have elections in the U.S., where both sides, in a way, are waiting to see what the effects will be, and the fact that Kosovo is deeply entrenched in a pre-election campaign suggests that they will not be inclined towards any compromise," Novakovic said.

He emphasized that he expects further tensions in the situation.

"The measures announced by Serbia, as President Vucic mentioned, and the fact that a 45-day period has been given to make certain steps towards normalizing the dialogue, if not the situation, still, I’m not sure that will be the case. Certainly, some of the responsibility for these issues lies with the Kosovo Serbs themselves, particularly because they left the institutions. However, on the other hand, the question remains whether the existing institutions, especially in northern Kosovo, are legitimate and have the right to exercise power," Novakovic stated.
