Office for Kosovo and Metohija: Attack on singing society proof that Kurti’s police exist to oppress Serbs
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated that the “abuse by Kurti’s police” against the members of the cultural and artistic singing group Kosovke from Batusa, and the tearing of their flag, is yet another image in the collage of harsh realities in which the Serbian people live in Kosovo.
It emphasized that, after a whole series of fundamental human rights have been denied to the Serbs, even the basic right to preserve their identity and cultural traditions is now under attack.
“It remains unclear whether Kurti’s policemen furiously tore apart the flag of the singing society because it bore the inscription ‘Kosovo and Metohija’ or because it displayed the image of Princess Milica. This is yet further confirmation that Kurti’s police in northern Kosovo and Metohija serve as an instrument of terror, whose role is to intimidate and oppress Serbs rather than to safeguard law and order,” the statement reads.
The Office added that an attack on the culture of a people constitutes the most direct threat to its survival, and that this latest act of police violence is part of an organized campaign of pressure aimed at forcing Serbs to leave Kosovo.
“The international community and its representatives in Kosovo and Metohija have no right to turn a blind eye to such trampling on the rights and dignity of an endangered community, for such practices are unacceptable anywhere in Europe,” it stressed.
