Olympic Committee of Serbia: It is scandalous that Pristina was awarded to host the 2030 Mediterranean Games
The Olympic Committee of Serbia announced that the decision of the Assembly of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, which had been held in Heraklion, Greece, to award Pristina the organization of the Mediterranean Games in 2030, was scandalous.
As stated in the announcement of the Olympic Committee, Pristina had been voted to host the Mediterranean Games in 2030 despite strong opposition from Serbia, but also against all the rules and postulates of international sports organizations that promoted the non-interference of politics and sports.
"At today's Assembly, without prior notice to the delegates, Albin Kurti appeared and spoke. The Olympic Committee of Serbia reacted most strongly to this type of interference by the Prime Minister of Kosovo and insisted that the decision on hosting the 2030 Mediterranean Games be made after the 2024 Olympic Games, which was the practice in these cases. The leadership of the ICMG refused to vote on this proposal of Serbia and thus put the delegates in front of a fait accompli," the statement says.
They add that despite the fact that the other candidates withdrew and despite great pressure to make the decision unanimously, the hosting of the Mediterranean Games was awarded, but with strong opposition from representatives of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, with 8 votes against.
"The Olympic Committee of Serbia strongly condemns this type of interference of politics in sport," the Committee said.
