Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Vladimir Orlic, points out that Kosovo is a state and national interest that Serbia is protecting, even though it is under great pressure, RTS reports.

"And in such impossible conditions, we will do what we have been doing until now - and that is to guide our ship, which is called Serbia, through huge storms and big waves, between rocks and cliffs, taking care to preserve ourselves to the greatest extent possible," Orlic noted in an interview for Radio Belgrade's First Program.

We have more strength to face challenges than we used to have, the Speaker of the Parliament believes, and it is reflected in the strength of our economy, through infrastructure.

Orlic points out that Serbia's position on Kosovo is respected and understood by a large part of the international community

"Representatives of the state everywhere and in every place explain what our position is on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, we openly say that we are proud of the fact that we can say that today, in principle, we stand for something that should be binding for everyone - but it is not taken for granted by everyone" , Vladimir Orlic explains.

It is, as he says, about the principles of international law, about respecting the UN Charter, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every state in the same way, under the same conditions and without exception.

"Small Serbia, by leading an independent policy, won for itself the right to be able to say that, to behave in that way," Orlic said.

"We respect everyone, and we say it openly, we expect the same respect for the sovereignty and integrity of our country from others as we show it to others", reminds Orlic and states that the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic also spoke about this at the UN and in front of the whole world.

The Speaker of the Parliament notes that, when it comes to Kosovo, we managed to turn the situation around at the UN - with strong arguments, serious work, enormous effort and great knowledge, we managed to convince several countries to change their position and be in favor of Serbia, in favor of public international law.

Orlic adds that this is precisely why more than 100 countries say that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia, they support the dialogue we are conducting and the efforts undertaken by President Vucic and Serbia.

"We have shown that with serious effort and in difficult and impossible conditions, we can successfully protect our own interests," the Speaker of the Parliament underlines.
