OSCE Mission in Kosovo on Popovic: It is important to ensure a fair and impartial judicial process
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo did not comment on the ongoing proceedings against Igor Popovic, Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, but emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, ensuring fair proceedings, and guaranteeing that trials are conducted impartially.
“In line with the principles of judicial impartiality and independence, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo does not comment on ongoing court proceedings. However, we underscore the importance of respecting the rule of law, ensuring fair trials, and guaranteeing that judicial proceedings are conducted transparently and impartially, in accordance with international human rights standards,” the Mission stated in a response to Kosovo Online when asked about the 30-day detention order issued against Igor Popovic.
Regarding the dialogue process, the OSCE Mission noted that it is essential for all parties to remain committed to the EU-facilitated process.
“Constructive engagement and restraint are key to preserving stability and making progress on unresolved issues,” the response added.
The Basic Court in Pristina yesterday ordered 30 days of detention for Popovic, due to statements he made about the KLA during a recent commemoration of the anniversary of the loss of Serbian lives in Orahovac.
