Petkovic with Bunford: Important for the Serb List to win all ten seats despite Kurti’s efforts to prevent it

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, met today with the Special Envoy for the Western Balkans and Advisor to the Hungarian Prime Minister, Zsolt Bunford, to discuss the political and security situation in the region, the upcoming extraordinary elections in Kosovo, as well as the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina within the Brussels-led dialogue.

Emphasizing that the Serb List won power in all ten municipalities with a Serb majority in the recent local elections in Kosovo, Petkovic underlined that it is of exceptional importance for that party, as the only legitimate representative of Serbs in Kosovo, to secure all ten parliamentary seats—despite the fact that Albin Kurti’s government is once again doing everything it can to prevent it from participating in the upcoming elections and from representing the interests of the Serbian people, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated in its press release.

“Serbian mayors in northern Kosovo found catastrophic conditions upon taking office—devastated and looted municipal premises, desecrated icons, threatening graffiti—all of which speaks to the shameful treatment that Kurti’s regime, the illegitimate Albanian mayors, and members of the so-called Kosovo police have shown toward the Serbian people as a whole,” Petkovic noted.

He expressed gratitude to his Hungarian counterpart for understanding the challenges faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo and for Hungary’s principled and constructive stance toward Serbia—an approach shaped by the excellent relations between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

“Belgrade will continue to act as a factor of peace and stability in the Western Balkans and to maintain a responsible position regarding the dialogue conducted in Brussels, even though Pristina, led by Kurti, is doing everything possible to undermine the agreements reached so far and is explicitly refusing to establish the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities,” Petkovic concluded.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Hungary to Serbia, József Magyar, the statement added.
