Petkovic with Chulick: Kurti's unilateral actions aim for an ethnically pure Kosovo

Petar Petkovic, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, met today with Nicole Chulick, the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the U.S. State Department. During the meeting, Petkovic emphasized that the goal of the Kosovo Prime Minister is to "finally expel Serbian institutions and the Serbian people from their centuries-old homes, thus realizing his dream of an ethnically pure Kosovo."

Petkovic informed Chulick about the current situation in Kosovo, following the incursion of the Kosovo Police "armed with long guns and full military equipment" into branches of the Postal Savings Bank and the Treasury Administration of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Serbia in the north. He highlighted that this was another unilateral and very dangerous move by Pristina, threatening to escalate the situation on the ground and endanger the stability of the entire region, according to a statement from the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

He added that it is clear that Kurti's aim is not only to deprive Serbs of salaries, pensions, and basic means of living, and to prevent their access to healthcare and education, "but to finally expel Serbian institutions and the Serbian people from their centuries-old homes, thus realizing his dream of an ethnically pure Kosovo."

"Petkovic recalled a series of daily unilateral actions by the Pristina regime, which implement ethnically motivated violence against Serbs in the province, such as physical attacks on Serbs, their churches and monasteries, the unilateral and contrary to all agreements prohibition of free movement of Serbian officials, including the Serbian patriarch, who cannot enter the province, the ban on Serbian goods entering Kosovo and Metohija for the past 10 months, unlawful arrests of Serbs with false accusations of war crimes, the farce around the recent referendum for the removal of fake Albanian mayors in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, which clearly showed that Kurti decided to continue exercising power in four Serbian municipalities with 3.5% voter support," the statement emphasized.

It also stated that Petkovic warned that Albin Kurti's regime persistently and systematically obstructs dialogue, with the intention of completely ending it.

"This is also evidenced by the refusal of the Pristina delegation to accept any proposals presented by Belgrade during seven rounds of meetings in Brussels, which were made in the spirit of the best intentions to resolve the issue of the use of the dinar and payment transactions with central Serbia in a peaceful and sustainable way, through compromise," said the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

He noted that "even the international community, with its appeals, is either unable or unwilling to stop Albin Kurti in his unilateral and violent actions, which day by day make life for Serbs in the province more difficult, and their safety more uncertain and precarious."

At the end of the conversation, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija concluded that concrete actions are necessary to pressure Pristina to stop the violence and terror against the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, to genuinely return to dialogue, and to finally implement what has been agreed in Brussels, primarily to enable the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities with essential authorities and instruments for the effective protection of the position and interests of the Serbian people in the province.
