Petkovic informed the Republic Electoral Commission that it was currently not possible to carry out the electoral procedure in Kosovo
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, informed the Republic Electoral Commission today through a letter that, due to the conditions imposed by Pristina and Albin Kurti, which were unacceptable to Belgrade, it was not possible to conduct voting in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija for the parliamentary elections scheduled for December 17, 2023, it was said to Tanjug by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
"In response to your request to determine the possibility of holding the parliamentary elections for the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on December 17, 2023, in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, we inform you that it is currently not possible to implement the electoral procedure in the territory of Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija in a manner that would be in accordance with legal regulations, as well as the state and national interests of the Republic of Serbia. The reason is that the regime of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Pristina, led by Albin Kurti, conditions the holding of these elections on the recognition by Belgrade of the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo", Petkovic emphasized in the letter to the Republic Electoral Commission.
In the letter, he further stated that "Albin Kurti, without fulfilling this condition, which is unacceptable to Belgrade, refuses to provide the necessary conditions for the operation of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe mission in Kosovo and Metohija, which, according to the model agreed upon in 2012, should assist the state organs of the Republic of Serbia in conducting the electoral procedure in the Province".
As a reminder, this model is based on an agreement that is fully in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija emphasized that with these actions, preventing the Serbs from Kosovo from voting in their places of residence, the regime in Pristina led by Albin Kurti continued to openly violate the rights of our people in the Province.
"Unfortunately, the regime of Albin Kurti has also decided to continue the practice of openly violating the rights of citizens of the Republic of Serbia in the Province in terms of this electoral procedure for the elections scheduled for December 17, 2023. This practice has been ongoing since 2022, hindering their expression of will in their places of residence in the Province in the elections organized by the Republic of Serbia", the letter that Petkovic sent to the Republic Electoral Commission today concludes.
