Radojevic: Concrete measures are needed, EU has mechanisms to stop Kurti
Milan Radojevic, a candidate from the Serb List in the parliamentary elections, emphasized that the EU and Western countries must take concrete measures to stop Albin Kurti's terror against Serbs, adding that they have the mechanisms to do so, because Kosovo depends on funding from Western countries.
"Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija have been enduring daily terror since Albin Kurti came to power. In one day, Kurti shut down 28 institutions south of the Ibar River, leaving over 1,100 people unemployed and 40,000 without the services provided by Serbia through those institutions. The users of these services are not just Serbs but also Albanians, Bosniaks, and others. By doing this, he has deprived all these citizens of the ability to access child benefits, enroll their children in kindergartens, or register their children in birth records. Albin Kurti is continuing his policy, as he announced in Brussels, to 'make Serbs suffer and pay.' He is taking all actions necessary to make life for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija almost impossible," Radojevic told RTS.
He stressed that concrete steps must be taken.
"Since Kurti announced his policy, we have seen nothing from Brussels. We have heard about punitive measures, but they are not visible on the ground. The EU certainly has mechanisms to implement measures and compel Kurti to stop expelling Serbs. It is impossible that Brussels lacks a mechanism. The government in Pristina depends on funding from the EU and Western countries. If there is a will, the EU has the means to prevent Kurti from endangering the Serbs," Radojevic said.
Asked about the latest statements from Western countries and the EU, he said it was a small positive step that both sides were no longer being mentioned but added that there had been no changes on the ground.
"It is a small positive step. In previous statements, they called on both sides to exercise restraint. What we as the Serb List have been striving for in recent times is not to give any reason for international officials or Pristina to react. Serbs have given no reason for these actions by Pristina. We welcome the statement; it is a step in the right direction. However, Serbs no longer have time to wait and expect the EU and Western countries to take action and stop unilateral moves," he emphasized.
He underlined that Serbs in Kosovo expect concrete measures and reactions to stop their suffering, to stop the further shutdown of Serbian institutions, and to enable them to live a dignified life.
"The funding of the government in Pristina depends directly on funding from the EU and Western countries. Brussels and all the countries that support Kosovo have the mechanisms to stop Kurti’s unilateral actions. We saw during Kurti's first government how Richard Grenell changed the government in 24 hours and stopped the chaos on the ground," he pointed out.
Radojevic is convinced that it is all a matter of will.
"Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija want peace. They are not a threat to anyone, they only want a dignified life. The Serb List wants to participate in these elections to show that Serbs in Kosovo trust the state of Serbia, which is the only one enabling the fight for their survival," he said.
