The Mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, responded to the actions of the Kosovo Police, who today refused to provide assistance to the municipal inspection in order to halt illegal construction works by a company from South Mitrovica, stating that the police had declared themselves competent to review municipal decisions.

“The Kosovo Police have declared themselves competent to review municipal decisions. When a café needs to be shut down because—believe it or not—sugar packets allegedly do not have an expiration date, full assistance with 30 police officers is immediately provided. But when construction works need to be banned on land owned by the municipality due to the lack of proper legal documentation, the Kosovo Police say that the contractor has complete documentation. No assistance,” Radojevic wrote in a Facebook post.

In his statement, he also recalled the deployment of a large number of Kosovo Police officers to the Grey café in North Mitrovica, in support of the municipal inspection at a time when the municipality was led by an Albanian mayor.

“It appears that sugar packets are more dangerous. Fortunately, the people of Mitrovica remember!” Radojevic wrote.

As Veljko Orlovic, Director of the Municipal Inspection of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, told Kosovo Online, inspectors identified illegal works without the necessary permits by a company from South Mitrovica during a regular inspection.

Despite the inspection’s decision, the works continued, and the Kosovo Police refused to provide assistance, although, as stated by the Municipality of North Mitrovica, the Inspection Directorate had requested such assistance on several occasions.
