Radojevic: Since taking office in the Municipality, we have been facing constant pressure
Following the conclusion of today’s session of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica, Mayor Milan Radojevic stated in a media address that since coming to power they have been facing numerous pressures. Commenting on the decisions adopted at today’s session, Radojevic noted that, in accordance with legal procedure, the President of the local assembly signs these decisions and forwards them to the Ministry, which then determines whether they were adopted in compliance with the law.
At the session, a decision was adopted to annul the previously adopted decisions on the naming of streets in North Mitrovica, and councilors once again voted in favor of the decision to withdraw from the Association of Kosovo Municipalities.
“I must emphasize that since taking office in the Municipality, we have been facing constant pressure, both from the central level and from the Kosovo Police on the ground. To put it mildly, we have no cooperation with the central level, and they are significantly obstructing our decisions and the work of the municipality itself. You heard that there was no public debate whatsoever on the issue of changing street names, which was decided by the previous assembly. We saw that, in the assembly decisions of the former leadership, the commissions were composed exclusively of Albanians. Even the only councilor from the Serbian community was listed as having signed those decisions, and he himself denied that he participated in the work of that commission. We will see how the judicial authorities act in this matter,” Radojevic said.
He added that the Ministry of Local Government Administration had, from the very beginning, requested that the item on changing street names be removed from the agenda.
“We will continue to work in the interest of our citizens, who gave us the mandate to represent their interests, and everything we believe should be the subject of investigation by the competent legal authorities will be forwarded accordingly,” Radojevic concluded.
