The German ambassador in Pristina, Jorn Rohde, stated that the current security situation is such "that there is no question of opening" the main bridge on the Ibar and that this position has been clearly communicated to the Government of Kosovo, RTK reports.

"There now has to be a process, there must be consultations, but at the moment there is no talk of opening. We have communicated this to the Government. For me, it is clear that the bridge should be opened, but we need dialogue between the authorities and the West. The assessment of the current security situation clearly shows that it is not the right time to open the bridge. As long as we believe that it is not the right time to open the bridge, we must remain in the current situation," Rode said.

He added that on this issue, regardless of the shared goals, Germany has been very clear in its discussions with the Government of Kosovo.

"We have been very clear with the Government of Kosovo. Of course, we have the same goals as the Government, that all the agreements made so far must be implemented. And there is another decision from these agreements that must be implemented, which is the agreement reached to open the bridge over the Ibar River. But now is not the time, you know, there is a risk of tensions," Rohde said.
