Political scientist from Pristina, Arbnor Sadiku, tells Kosovo Online that the election of Slovenian politician Marta Kos as the new European Commission's Commissioner for Enlargement will be good news for the Western Balkans because she has an excellent understanding of the region’s issues.

"I think this is good news. As we know, Slovenia was formerly part of Yugoslavia and is very familiar with the problems of the Western Balkan countries. Cooperation will therefore be much, much easier, and many of the Balkan countries could follow Slovenia’s steps before it joined the European Union," Sadiku says.

He adds that the fact that the European Union chose a Commissioner for Enlargement from the Western Balkans region shows that they are interested in this area.

"By deciding to assign the enlargement portfolio to Slovenia, the EU has signaled that it is paying attention to the Western Balkans and the prospects of these countries for deepening shared values and European integration prospects," Sadiku emphasized.
