Serb List welcomes Constitutional Court decision: A small but significant victory for the Serbian people

The Serb List welcomed the decision of the Constitutional Court, stating that it confirmed their position that the Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly from the ranks of Self-Determination, Dimal Basha, acted unconstitutionally and attempted, as they stressed, once again to take away what is defined as the constitutional right of the Serbian people within the Assembly.

As the Serb List emphasized on Instagram, this is a small but significant victory for the Serbian people.

“The Serb List welcomes the decision of the Constitutional Court upon the request of the Serb List deputies, which confirmed our position that the Speaker of the Assembly from Kurti’s Vetëvendosje acted unconstitutionally and attempted once again to take away what is defined as the constitutional right of the Serbian people within the Assembly. This is a small but extremely significant victory for the Serbian people compared to the multitude of other decisions by the regime in Pristina, which, by violating all regulations, infringed upon the collective and individual rights of our people,” the statement read.

Taking into account that the Court has not delivered the full decision, the Serb List noted they would refrain from further comment, especially given that their request included several points seeking a constitutional review of the Speaker’s actions to the detriment of the Serbian people.

“The Serb List will continue, through the institutions, to do everything to protect the rights of our people, thereby justifying the trust our citizens placed in us at the elections,” the statement concluded.

Today, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo ruled that the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly cannot be considered concluded without the election of a deputy speaker from the Serbian community.

The Court obliged MPs to complete the election of the deputy speaker from the Serbian community within 12 days from the date the decision enters into force.
