Sign bearing Djindjic's name relocated in North Mitrovica, Boletini sign remains in the same place
The sign bearing the name of Zoran Djindjic, which was installed yesterday in North Mitrovica alongside a sign reading "Isa Boletini", was relocated this morning from its position near the roundabout at the entrance to the city.
As of this morning, the sign bearing Zoran Djindjic's name is located farther down the street that leads from the roundabout toward the main street and the monument to Prince Lazar.
The street sign named after Isa Boletini remains in the same location.
The signs with the new street names, honoring Boletini and Djindjic, were installed yesterday by Acting Minister of Spatial Planning Fitore Pacolli, who stated that the new names had been selected in cooperation with the previous administration in North Mitrovica.
The Municipality of North Mitrovica reacted to the move, stating that the installation of the new street signs had not been announced or coordinated with the legal and legitimate municipal representatives and that the action had been carried out as part of the Self-Determination Movement's campaign.
North Mitrovica Mayor Milan Radojevic had covered the signs with a cloth, stating that the decision on the naming of the streets was unlawful.
Meanwhile, the installation of the sign bearing Zoran Djindjic's name was opposed by the KLA Veterans' Association.
The name of the former Serbian prime minister also drew objections from residents of South Mitrovica, some of whom told Kosovo Press that "Isa Boletini and Zoran Djindjic cannot stand in the same place."
