Sopjani: Pacolli played a key role in Kenya's recognition of Kosovo using his connections and influence in Africa
Lawyer and former chief inspector of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA), Shkelzen Sopjani, stated that former Kosovo Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli played a crucial role in Kenya’s recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
Speaking to Kosovo Online, Sopjani emphasized that this is the only recognition of Kosovo’s independence in the last five years.
"This is a significant recognition for Kosovo, especially since it comes from Kenya, one of the most important and influential countries in Africa. This recognition has the potential to create new opportunities for Kosovo on the international stage, particularly among other African states that might now start recognizing Kosovo. It is a very important recognition because, let’s not forget, it is the only one in the last five years, and it could create new momentum for further recognitions," Sopjani stated.
He noted that Pacolli played a key role in this process by using his connections and influence in Africa.
"Pacolli was the first to announce Kenya’s recognition, and it is clear that he used his contacts in that part of the world. This is not the first time his engagement has led to an African country recognizing Kosovo," he added.
Although he praised Pacolli’s role, Sopjani pointed out that Pacolli currently lacks significant political support in Kosovo.
"Pacolli does not have a political party with influence, nor was anyone from his ranks elected in the last elections. I do not see him as part of the next government," Sopjani concluded.
