Spahiu and Burjani: Kurti's main opposition is within Self-Determination Movement; a soon-to-be split group of MPs

The biggest political opponents of Albin Kurti are currently not from the opposition, but rather the ministers in his government and members of his Self-Determination Movement, analysts Nexhmedin Spahiu and Blerim Burjani agree in statements for Kosovo online, and on the occasion of today's speech by Kurti's party colleague Haki Abazi, who spoke openly about their disagreements and why it bothered Kurti.

Spahiu stated for Kosovo Online, and on the occasion of the press conference at which Abazi had made a series of accusations against the Self-Determination Movement and Albin Kurti, that this was "normal because a democratic society has different interests".

"When a party gets more than 50 percent of the votes in the elections, it is normal that it does not have problems with the opposition, but with itself. The biggest opponent of Albin Kurti is not the opposition, but the ministers in his government and members of his party who cause problems because of different ideologies. Every society has different interests and it is not possible to maintain more than 50 percent on one line. After the election, the discord begins. So these kinds of events are quite normal," Spahiu said.

When asked if Abazi's dismissal was justified, considering his public appearances against some decisions made in Self-Determination Movement, Spahiu says that it is an internal matter of the party.

"I am not a member of the Self-Determination Movement and I cannot judge who is right, it is their internal matter that takes place on democratic grounds. It is the right of the leader to remove or propose the removal of a member, and the right of that member is to oppose the leader," Spahiu concluded.

On the other hand, Kosovo analyst Blerim Burjani believes that the discord in Self-Determination Movement is the result of Kurti's way of conducting politics.

"Individuals in Self-Determination Movement have their own reasons regarding some issues related to internal politics, and another reason is the way of conducting politics in the parliament of the Self-Determination Movement. These problems with individuals have been going on for a long time, Kurti thinks that they are against him and are working to overthrow his government," Burjani said.

As he added, Kurti should be especially careful with MPs who had joined the Self-Determination Movement a little later.

"There are five individuals in the Self-Determination Movement who are dissatisfied with Kurti's way of conducting politics. I think Kurti should work with this group seriously because they were not with him from the beginning, they became MPs thanks to Kurti," Burjani added.

Burjani believes that individuals in Self-Determination Movement will form their own parliamentary group by May of this year.

"Kurti has people in the parliament who don’t represent anyone, which mean they don't even have a profession. This is the case with Mimoza Kusari-Lila, who changed parties and coalitions. She has some fake party, which will no longer be on the list of Self-Determination Movement in the next mandate. This means that now there is a chance that this group within Self-Determination will form a new parliamentary group, I think it will happen by May of this year," Burjani concluded.
