Spahiu: Derecognitions are not important, Kosovo needs recognition from Serbia, Russia, China and five EU countries
Political analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu believes that the recognition of Serbia, Russia, China and five EU countries is important to Kosovo, so it is unimportant that nine other countries have withdrawn the recognition of Kosovo because, as he says, these are countries "that are frivolous and with which Kosovo will never have diplomatic relations".
"Recognitions from neighboring countries are important for Kosovo, first of all from Serbia, the country from which Kosovo seceded, then from Russia and China and from the five EU countries that have not yet recognized Kosovo's independence," Spahiu told Kosovo Online.
Spahiu believes that Kosovo will not lose support in the world because of these nine countries that withdrew their recognition.
"Kosovo is in a stalemate due to non-recognition by Serbia, Russia and China and five EU countries. First of all, due to European integration and membership in NATO, because of the five EU countries that do not recognize Kosovo, four are NATO members. The withdrawal of recognition by nine countries is completely unimportant because Kosovo has a lot of recognitions, so even if 50 out of 117 of them withdraw recognitions, it is not so terrible," says Spahiu.
He adds that the most important question is how close Kosovo is to be recognized by Greece, Romania or Serbia.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, pointed out last night that, regarding the situation in the world, even 106 countries did not recognize the independence of Kosovo, only 84 unequivocally recognized it and three countries were not clear on it.
He also published a list of countries that withdrew their recognition in the past period.
"We have nine countries that have withdrawn recognition - Somalia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Eswatini, Libya, Guinea, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Maldives. And we are waiting for the tenth," he said at the annual press conference.
