Stano: Measures against the Government of Kosovo introduced due to their inability to behave in a European manner

European Union spokesperson, Petar Stano, said at today's media briefing that the measures against the Government of Kosovo had been introduced due to their inability to "start behaving in a European manner and to de-escalate the situation", and that the EU's approach was balanced.

"What we have done recently in light of the latest escalations is the introduction of certain measures against the Government of Kosovo due to their inability to start behaving in a European manner and to de-escalate the situation, to take steps towards de-escalation," Stano said.

He stated that the measures would be introduced to Serbia as well if the EU members ascertained that Serbia did nothing in the direction of de-escalation.

"If the 27 member states ascertain that Serbia is not doing anything in the direction of de-escalation, then we will introduce the necessary measures against Serbia as well. Our approach is balanced. Of course, all measures are reversible and depend on how the partners behave in the context of de-escalation and progress towards a return to the normal process of conducting dialogue," Stano said.

As he pointed out, the EU was coordinating and consulting with international partners, mainly the United States of America, on this issue.

Stano reiterated that Josep Borrell had received a joint letter from 56 parliamentarians from several countries, and that, as always, he would respond through adequate channels and not through the media.
