Starovic: According to the UN Resolution 1244, Serbia has the right to return hundreds of members of the security forces to Kosovo

The recent State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nemanja Starovic, announced that according to the UN Resolution 1244, Serbia had the right to request the return of hundreds of members of the security forces to Kosovo.

"The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, announced today that, due to the constant mistreatment of the Serbs in the province, Serbia would request the return of armed personnel to Kosovo in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which clearly defined the right to such deployment and the scope of forces to return (hundreds, not thousands)", Starovic emphasized.

Starovic posted photos of the UN Resolution 1244 on Twitter, where, among other things, it is stated that after the withdrawal of the armed forces, Serbia had the right to return hundreds of armed personnel to Kosovo.

"It confirms that after the withdrawal, an agreed number of the Yugoslav and Serbian military and police personnel will be allowed to return to Kosovo to perform their duties in accordance with Annex 2. It decides on the deployment of a civilian and security presence in Kosovo, under the auspices of the UN, with appropriate equipment and personnel, as requested, and welcomes the consent of the Federative Republic of Yugoslavia for such a presence. The return of personnel for the four listed functions will be carried out under the supervision of the international security presence and will be limited to a small agreed number (hundreds, not thousands)," the part of the UN Resolution 1244 states.

As added, the returning staff would be allowed to perform the following functions:

"Relationship with the international civilian mission and international security presence; marking and clearing of minefields; maintaining a presence at Serbian cultural heritage sites, as well as maintaining a presence at the main border crossings," the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 states.
