Stojkovic: It will be even more difficult for pensioners after the transitional period for the implementation of the dinar decision

During the transitional period since the unreasonable and inhumane decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo regarding the dinar came into effect, it is evident that an agreement or solution could not be reached, and it seems to me that the international community, which lacked understanding for the Serbian community in Kosovo, largely failed, Vesko Stojkovic, President of the Pensioners Association in Gracanica, says for Kosovo Online.

He mentions that the Association has received many reports that dinars cannot be used for payment in stores, and there are also issues with payment for spa rehabilitation or vacations for pensioners.

"We have reached a situation where we cannot meet our obligations. We will manage somehow, but there are delays, not to mention the daily challenges of acquiring food, medicine, and other necessities. We hope for a solution regarding the dinar, but hopes are diminishing precisely due to the tacit approval of the international community," Stojkovic emphasizes.

He adds that the international community could have postponed the implementation of the CBK and Pristina administration's decision for a reasonable period, but once again, they failed.

"Just by the CBK's decision announcement, pensioners found themselves unable to survive and provide for basic necessities and medicines. Now, as the decision becomes effective, the situation will worsen. We still receive pensions in dinars, and all of this requires additional efforts and creates incredible problems that pensioners face," Stojkovic notes.

Pensioners, he says, did not want to, but they must adapt to the new circumstances. However, adaptation does not mean accepting everything.

"The uncertainty remains. With the abolition of the dinar, questions arise about whether freedom of movement and freedom of association will be possible in the future. Life must go on, we must find ways to cope, but it is truly hopeless in every aspect if these tendencies continue, along with the tacit approval of all actions by the Kosovo administration by the international community," Stojkovic concludes.
