Surlic: According to messages from Pristina, it's evident that Kurti's government isn't ready for a concession

Ahead of tomorrow's meeting in Brussels, where the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo to ban transactions in dinars will be discussed, Stefan Surlic, a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, assesses for Kosovo Online that, based on the messages coming from Pristina, it is evident that the government of Albin Kurti is not prepared to make concessions and will continue to adhere to the CBK regulation.

"What Pristina is offering, and what they'll likely present in Brussels, is to apply a certain model that is, supposedly, acceptable to Serbs, and at the same time won't derogate the regulation itself. They are interested in implementing the regulation no matter what, perhaps giving some transitional period, but fundamentally applying the decision they've outlined, which is to abolish the dinar as a means of payment in Kosovo," Surlic said.

He believes that there are very slim chances of reaching any agreement, despite significant pressure from Brussels and other places.

"Even by sending a low-level delegation from Pristina, they are sending a clear message that their position is very rigid and that they aren't ready to compromise regarding the use of the dinar, further use of the dinar in the territory of Kosovo," Surlic concluded.

The Belgrade delegation at tomorrow's meeting will be led by the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, while the Pristina delegation has not yet publicly announced who will represent them. The participation of the Central Bank of Kosovo has been confirmed.
