Republican Congresswoman from New York and Chair of the Serbian Caucus in the US House of Representatives, Claudia Tenney, has called on Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani to immediately release Igor Popovic, the Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, from detention.

“I am deeply concerned about the unjust arrest of Igor Popovic by the Kosovo police. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have made it clear that Freedom of Speech is an essential human right that must be upheld,” Tenney emphasized in a post on the social network “X.”

She called on Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani to release Popovic.

“I call upon Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani to immediately release Mr. Popovic and end his wrongful detention,” Tenney stated.

Popovic was arrested on Friday, July 18, at the Brnjak administrative crossing due to a statement he made during a memorial service for victims from the municipality of Orahovac, held in Velika Hoca. He has since been placed in 30-day detention.
