Todic: A grave wrong by the Pristina regime; Painted-over murals will be restored

Former Mayor of Leposavic, Zoran Todic, stated that the painting over of murals in the municipality represents yet another grave wrong coming from the current regime in Pristina, directed against all that is Serbian.

Speaking to Kosovo Online, Todic underlined that this act did not come only from local authorities but also from the central government in Pristina.

“This is yet another grave wrongdoing aimed at everything Serbian. It comes both from the illegal and illegitimate local authorities, as well as from the current regime in Pristina. Whitewashing the faces of our deceased fellow citizens, who left this world too soon, is truly an unreasonable act, and without doubt could only come from unreasonable and sick people,” Todic said.

He asked rhetorically who could possibly be disturbed by murals that carry no messages of hatred or intolerance.

“Once again, the authorities abused their position and involved the Kosovo police in this wrongdoing. Irrational, painful, and sad,” Todic stressed.

He added that this act strikes most deeply at the families of the young men whose murals were destroyed, but also at every Serb living in Kosovo.

“This is a great disgrace and shame for any human being, regardless of their nationality. I know this hurts the families of these young men most of all, but it also wounds every honest and decent Serb,” Todic said.

He recalled that the same thing happened yesterday in North Mitrovica.

“Unfortunately, yesterday we witnessed similar actions in Mitrovica, where murals of our church dignitaries and murals commemorating symbols of resistance and the survival of the Serbian people were painted over. It is truly an unreasonable act, perhaps intended to provoke a reaction from the Serbian people,” Todic observed.

He expressed his belief that the Serbian people will remain dignified.

“I think we need to be wise. This will not last forever. I am convinced that we will very soon restore all the murals that have been painted over,” Todic declared.

During the night, unknown individuals, with the assistance of the Kosovo police, painted over murals in Leposavic dedicated to Djordje Lukovic and Jovan Milanovic.
