Vasic: Milosavljevic completely innocent, we will file an objection with the court regarding some evidence

Gavrilo Milosavljevic's defense attorney, Dejan A. Vasic, stated after the preparatory hearing and reading of the indictment, in which the special prosecution accused him of alleged war crimes, that the defense would timely file an objection with the court regarding some evidence that he claimed had been illegally obtained, as well as any other deficiencies in the indictment.

The prosecution accuses Milosavljevic of being involved in mass killings of Albanian prisoners in the Dubrava prison, which occurred from May 22, 1999, to May 24, 1999, during which 109 prisoners were killed, and 108 were wounded.

At today's preparatory hearing, Milosavljevic pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Attorney Vasic is confident that it will be proven that Milosavljevic is innocent.

"The prosecutor read the indictment today, with which we have familiarized ourselves in the meantime, where we received the documents. I will timely submit an objection that I believe should be addressed to the court regarding some evidence that has been illegally obtained, in terms of the reasonable suspicion itself, and in terms of everything else that we believe is missing in this indictment. The court will decide on this in the coming short period, and I expect that if there is no courage, it is better to cut this story now so that by the beginning of next year, we enter the courtroom and start with the legal proceedings, where I am 100% sure that it will be proven that Gavrilo is completely innocent of what the special prosecution is accusing him of", Vasic said.

Vasic emphasizes that this is not the stage where one can talk in more detail about the indictment.

"I had one need, even though I say that today was not the time or place for it, to point out to the court just one fact, that by simply reading the three statements of that only witness, it is possible to conclude some things about his credibility", Vasic said.

Today, the attorney orally requested a mitigation of the detention measure for Milosavljevic, who has been in prison for almost a year. However, he emphasizes that he will not submit a proposal for such a thing because, as he says, he already knows it will be rejected.

"Submitting proposals that I know will be rejected does not benefit either my client, the court, or the special prosecution. I will wait a little longer; perhaps it is still necessary for that one witness to be heard so that all of us who are present and who see it may perceive differently all these things that now seem bombastic", Vasic concluded.
