President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that the Berlin Process Summit in Tirana was of special significance as it was taking place for the first time in a Western Balkan country, and she added that the EU was committed to enlargement, with the goal of providing companies from the region access to the common European market.

"This is a very special summit, the one that is held today. It is the 10th Berlin Process Summit, but it will be held for the first time in a Western Balkan country. This sends a strong message about how committed we are to enlargement. I will present a growth plan; we want to enable companies from the Western Balkans to access the common European market. But this requires reforms in the Western Balkans. Those who are willing to reform, to create a common regional market, will receive funds from the EU," von der Leyen said to reporters before the start of the Summit.

She emphasized that this was an incentive for countries that wished to progress and improve their economy.

"Our doors are open, so let's work on this growth plan today," Ursula von der Leyen conveyed.
