Vucic: I informed Hill about the increasingly difficult situation of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, informed the Ambassador of the United States of America, Christopher Hill, today of the increasingly difficult situation and challenges faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo.
"Vucic said that the situation for Serbs living in Kosovo is becoming increasingly difficult, that they are subjected to almost daily attacks, arrests, and other pressures, and pointed to the growing dissatisfaction of the people due to the unilateral and illegal actions of the temporary self-government authorities in Pristina and the absence of adequate reactions from the international community," as stated in the press release of the Serbian Presidency.
According to the statement, Vucic emphasized that Serbia would continue, as before, to resolve all open issues through responsible politics and dialogue in order to improve the lives of its citizens, and he added that he expected the support of the United States in all efforts aimed at preserving peace and stability in the region and achieving and implementing sustainable agreements with Pristina, which primarily refer to the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities.
Vucic also discussed regional cooperation and bilateral issues with Hill. Hill pointed out that the United States and its European Union partners would continue to advocate for a dialogue that would bring concrete results and reiterated the US's support for European integration and the development of Serbia and the region.
The interlocutors agreed that the preservation of peace and stability in the Western Balkans is of crucial importance and added that economic prosperity and connection could be extremely beneficial in resolving political issues.
Vucic also posted on the buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account after the meeting.
"I informed Ambassador Hill of the increasingly difficult situation and challenges that our people in Kosovo and Metohija face and reiterated my concern about the frequent attacks, arrests, and other pressures to which the Serbs are subjected. The Republic of Serbia is trying to preserve peace with consistent and responsible politics and ensure a safer and easier life for all citizens, with respect and application of international law and that which was agreed upon in the dialogue with Pristina, and I asked Ambassador Hill for the full support and engagement of the United States on that path," Vucic stated.
