Vujicic: The lines at Merdare reflect Kurti's terror against Serbs

The Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, Danijela Vujicic, believes that the formal passage of Serbian goods through the Merdare crossing is only superficial, while the situation on the ground is quite different due to the upcoming elections for Kosovo's Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, reports RTS.

Vujicic emphasizes that the international community must condemn Kurti, and such criticism must be significant and relevant.

"For over a year, we have been waiting for Albin Kurti to ease up under international pressure in one area, but this is just an illusion. For example, the Merdare crossing was chosen because it passes through Albanian areas and settlements with an entirely Albanian population, and only then does the goods reach users in Gracanica or Kosovska Mitrovica," Vujicic points out.

According to her, the Jarinje crossing would have been a better solution.

"Even before the ban was introduced, goods could reach users there without any issues," Vujicic summarizes, stressing that the current actions by Pristina are preparations ahead of the upcoming elections.

Vujicic also notes that the "language of terror" is the only one Kurti's administration understands.

"This is reflected in many ways. Currently, we are witnessing new arrests of Serbs, and none of the agreements made through international mediation are being respected," she highlights.

She mentions that Germany’s ultimatum for allowing the flow of Serbian goods into Kosovo is certainly important for the people in Kosovo but is not permanent.

"The people cannot feel completely free in terms of the free movement of goods, services, and capital. That still does not exist," Vujicic remarks.

She stresses that in the upcoming period, she expects additional pressure from Pristina on the Serbian population, while also pointing out the lack of sufficient pressure from the international community on Pristina.

"If there had been enough pressure in the previous period and it had been realistic, the Community of Serb Municipalities, which we have been waiting for more than 11 years, would have been established. Whenever they say that Kurti must implement something, the reality on the ground shows a different picture," she emphasizes.

A new round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina at the technical level is scheduled for October 24, but Vujicic explains that when it comes to Kurti, nothing can be predicted in advance.

"Belgrade has extended its hand, and it remains extended. We want dialogue. However, I fear that with the elections in sight, Kurti will focus all his efforts on targeting the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija," she says.

She concludes by noting that Belgrade's room for maneuver is limited.

"Through diplomacy alone, we can persuade the international community, or part of it, to condemn Kurti’s misdeeds toward the Serbian people. Of course, he is not acting alone, but it is important that the level of condemnation be significant," Vujicic concludes.
